This sweatshirt proudly showcases the Merritt brothers' legacy in the Cat Cay Tuna Tournaments, making it a wonderful reminder of their incredible contributions.  Buddy Merritt was a pioneering figure in fishing tackle design and technique, notably introducing the use of a mast for spotting and baiting fish. His innovative approach, combined with the creation of a highly agile boat, produced a winning combination. In their initial appearance at the Cat Cay tournament, Buddy and his brother, Allen, showcased the 37-foot Merritt Caliban, skillfully outmaneuvering their competitors to secure victory. This vessel gained recognition as the ideal tuna-fishing boat, marking a significant achievement in sportfishing history alongside its esteemed captains. Allen Merritt subsequently set a record by winning seven out of eleven Cat Cay Tuna Tournaments, more than any captain in history.
